Welcome to Annelie Powell Casting.
Annelie is a casting director with nearly 20 years of experience working across theatre, television, and film. Her approach is grounded in creativity, integrity, and a deep respect for the collaborative process. Whether it’s a bold new play, a classic revival, a large scale musical or a screen project with global reach, Annelie brings a meticulous eye and a heartfelt commitment to finding the right cast to tell the story.
She began her casting career in 2006, assisting a director on a play — a chance encounter that revealed a lifelong passion. Since then, her career has spanned some of the UK’s most prestigious institutions. She spent five years as Head of Casting at Nuffield Southampton Theatres and another five with the Royal Shakespeare Company, contributing to acclaimed productions including Hamlet, Oppenheimer, King Lear, and Imperium, Wendy and Peter Pan, The Seven Acts of Mercy, Candide, Faustus, Two Noble Kinsmen, The Winters Tale amongst many others
Annelie is currently a Creative Associate at Jonathan Church Theatre Productions, and her extensive theatre work includes collaborations with:
Francesca Moody Productions, Fiery Angel, Almeida Theatre, Theatre Royal Stratford East, Chichester Festival Theatre,Regent’s Park Open Air Theatre, Leeds Playhouse, Roald Dahl Story Company, PW Productions
Her work spans a wide range of styles and scales — from West End productions to regional premieres — but what unites them all is a belief that casting is a vital and creative part of the storytelling process and she adores working with people who share the same perspective.
In addition to her theatre portfolio, Annelie has extensive screen experience. She has worked with major broadcasters and studios including Netflix, Apple TV+, BBC, ITV, Channel 4, Nickelodeon, and Viacom, casting everything from nuanced family dramas to large-scale international productions. She even worked on The Bill back in the day, which does nothing but show her age.

Annelie is also deeply committed to supporting the next generation of actors and creatives. She founded Casting Workshops in 2007 — a space for actors to develop both industry insight and artistic craft in an accessible, supportive environment and though she no longer runs these she is regularly found teaching in Drama schools and is continually trying to write a book on casting.
